Overview

The Molen de Adriaan started operating in 1778 as a trasmolen (putty for Roman mortar), in 1802 it was sold as a snuff mill. In 1865 it was converted into a double wind and steam powered grist mill. The introduction of electricity marked the end of most Dutch windmills. In 1932 Adriaan burned down and it took 70 years to rebuild it into a wotking grain mill. Adriaan is a landmark on the river Spaarne very close to the center of Haarlem.
In the mill below the peak, you can see millstones, which can be used to grind grain into flour. The flour under the stone floor is where the flour is bagged. Outside on the balcony, you are close to the wings and can enjoy a beautiful view of Haarlem at a height of 12 meters.
When the miller is in De Adriaan and with enough wind you will enjoy the spin of the wings. The wingspan is 26 meters.
