Full Description

This entrance ticket grants access to Pena Palace and Pena Park, located on one of the highest hills in the Sintra region. You skip the ticket-purchase line, although security or palace entry queues may still apply. The palace stands within extensive parkland that visitors pass through before reaching the historic building via a steep access ramp designed in the 19th century.

Originally a Hieronymite monastery built in 1511, the structure was later transformed by King Ferdinand II into a Romantic-style royal residence during the 1800s. The palace combines architectural influences and features two main sections: the restored monastery and a newer wing added during the king’s expansion works. The surrounding park was designed as a romantic garden filled with winding paths, pavilions, viewpoints, and hundreds of plant species brought from around the world. Today, Pena Palace is a National Monument and part of the UNESCO-listed Cultural Landscape of Sintra, offering visitors a blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty.

Know Before You Go

  • Please note that due to ongoing restoration and conservation works, the Private Apartments section of the Palace will not be accessible between 2 March and 1 April 2026. There will be some changes to the route and some rooms and sections might be accessed differently.
  • Take into account that the journey from the entrance to the park to the entrance of the palace interior route takes about 30 minutes.
  • Plan your route through Sintra in advance, according to your mode of travel, in order to arrive at the location at the desired time.
  • Calculate the duration of your journey to Pena well. Please note that access to Pena from the Historic Center of Sintra is not possible by private car. Plan your trip, considering the various options: public transport or walking routes.
  • This ticket allows you to skip the line to the ticket office. You may still need to wait in line to enter the palace.
