Full Description
The largest and most up-to-date museum dedicated to migration in Europe is the German Emigration Center. Seven million Europeans left their home countries through the port of Bremerhaven in pursuit of a better life in the New World, and you can trace their journeys. The museum's cutting-edge research facilities even allow you to start looking for your own ancestors. You can travel across 300 years of immigration and emigration history with your electronic boarding pass. The narrative of a person who immigrated to the New World is included on each iCard. Numerous interactive displays and audio stations are also activated via the iCard.
With the help of the iCard, you will travel through time in a way that will never be forgotten and hear the emigrants' stories directly. Numerous European emigrants will be present at the quay. Discover how their journey to an unfamiliar nation was accompanied by an emotional parting moment. You will then board a ship with them, including the ocean liner Columbus in 1929, to experience life on board three different eras of passenger transport. At the Ellis Island immigration station, you are now required to take an immigration test at the legal desk. You will proceed to Grand Central in New York after obtaining the entry permission. More information regarding emigrant life in the New World can be found here. Explore the several exhibition halls and learn more about the causes and history of migration.
You can start your own search for emigrated relatives in the Family Research room when you have finished the tour and have a thorough understanding of the emigration process. A qualified assistant will be available to assist you in navigating the emigration history of your own family at no cost.
