Full Description

Discover the Belvedere in Vienna, one of the world’s premier art museums, set within a stunning Baroque complex. The museum encompasses the Upper and Lower Belvedere palaces and expansive gardens, offering a journey through art from the Middle Ages to contemporary works.

The Belvedere houses the world’s largest collection of Gustav Klimt paintings, alongside masterpieces from the Viennese Biedermeier period, Austrian Baroque, Vienna around 1900, and French Impressionism. For the first time in decades, large-scale special exhibitions are once again on display, enriching every visit.

Built in the 18th century for Austrian general Prince Eugene of Savoy by Baroque architect Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt, the complex later came under Empress Maria Theresa, who transformed the Upper Belvedere into one of the first public museums in the world. The Lower Belvedere, formerly the prince’s residence, hosts prominent exhibitions.

Stroll through the Belvedere’s magnificent Baroque gardens, which stretch across three terraces between the palaces, and explore the park’s Botanical Garden and Europe’s oldest Alpine garden.
