Full Description
Explore the remarkable geothermal landscapes of Wai-O-Tapu, one of New Zealand’s most famous natural attractions. Located just outside Rotorua, this volcanic wonderland has been sculpted over thousands of years, creating an environment filled with vibrant colors, steaming pools, and dramatic geothermal formations. Wander at your own pace along well-marked pathways that guide you through some of the region’s most stunning scenery.
Be amazed by the striking Champagne Pool, known for its vivid orange and green mineral edges, and take in other unforgettable sights like the Artist’s Palette and the eerie Devil’s Bath. These features are shaped by continuous geothermal activity, offering a rare glimpse into the dynamic forces beneath the earth’s surface. With three different walking circuits, you can tailor your visit to the time and distance that suits you best.
Make sure to catch the Lady Knox Geyser, which erupts each day at 10:30 AM, shooting water 10–20 meters high. The visitor centre provides helpful information, a café, and other amenities to complete your experience. For anyone traveling to Rotorua, Wai-O-Tapu is an absolute must-visit.
