Full Description
Explore Madeira’s highest mountains on a self-guided hiking adventure with a convenient transfer from Funchal. After being picked up at your accommodation, travel by shared van (up to 8 people) to Pico do Arieiro, the island’s second-highest peak.
Before starting the hike, you will receive instructions and map explanations from your host along with a schedule for the day. From Pico do Arieiro, set off on the well-known PR1 trail toward Pico Ruivo, the highest mountain on Madeira at 1,862 meters.
The self-guided hike covers about 10 kilometers and typically takes around five hours. Along the route, enjoy spectacular mountain scenery and unique landscapes between Madeira’s highest peaks.
After reaching Pico Ruivo, continue to Achada do Teixeira, where the hike ends. A transfer will meet you in the parking area and take you back after completing the trail.
