Full Description
Explore La Palma’s newest volcano and witness the dramatic impact of the 2021 eruption as you walk across the youngest landmass in Europe. Follow your guide to see fresh lava fields and hike toward the summit of this extraordinary natural creation.
Your adventure begins at Tacande, the island’s earliest recorded volcano from 1480, once known as the “burnt mountain.” From there, start your ascent toward the new Cumbre Vieja volcano and take in the astonishing landscape that emerged in just 85 days.
Follow an 8-kilometer trail around the upper perimeter of the volcano (note: the crater itself is not climbed). The route is comfortable, with a height difference of –300m / +300m, and offers incredible views of the eruption’s power etched into the terrain.
Throughout the hike, learn how the lava flow reshaped the island—destroying more than 3,000 buildings, engulfing forests, and eventually forming a brand-new peninsula. See firsthand where the molten lava carved its path and left behind a striking volcanic landscape unlike anything else.
