Once a church, later a mosque, the Hagia Sophia has always been a precious building for the locals.
Know Before You Go
- During peak times, security checkpoints may have queues. Please note that this ticket does not include priority access, and waiting times may reach up to 30 minutes.
- All visitors must pass through security screening before entering.
- The Hagia Sophia Museum entrance ticket provides access only to the 2nd-floor visitor areas, not to the mosque’s prayer areas.
- This ticket allows entry to the visiting section and upper gallery only, and does not include access to the prayer hall on the ground floor.
- Children must present their passports at the entrance to verify their age.
- Modest clothing is required for all visitors: arms and legs must be covered. Women must also cover their hair with a scarf (available for purchase on-site if needed).
- On the first day of Ramadan and the first day of the Sacrifice Festival, the mosque is open for only half a day.
- Please be aware that restoration work is ongoing at Hagia Sophia. As a result, some sections may be temporarily closed, and access may change depending on the progress of the work.
