Full Description
Explore the world of Japanese tea through immersive programs set within the green surroundings and museum of Chazna in Uji, a town renowned for its tea heritage. Through hands-on and interactive exhibits, visitors are introduced to the history and culture of Uji tea in a clear and engaging way.
Begin in the History Room, where a large replica of a 10-yen coin featuring Byodoin Phoenix Hall greets you. Learn about Uji’s past through digital displays, including a large 4K screen showcasing beautifully updated illustrations of the town’s famous landmarks.
Next, enjoy a hands-on tea experience by grinding tea leaves into fine matcha powder using a traditional tea mill. With guidance from a Japanese tea instructor, you’ll learn how to properly prepare matcha and savor the tea you’ve made yourself.
During the summer season only, at the 2:45 PM session, guests can enjoy a refreshing treat by pouring freshly ground matcha over ice cream—both as a drink and a dessert—for a cool and memorable seasonal experience.
