Tour Plan

What to expect

The abbey has weathered the ravages of man, time, and nature. The mount's valiant resistance to English invasions during the Hundred Years' War (14th and 15th centuries) cemented its status as a symbol of French national pride. Monks departed the abbey in 1790, and it was designated a historic monument in 1874. The whole property has been resurrected to its former beauty owing to continuous restoration efforts.
