Full Description
Greetings from Pantheon Admission Self-guided tour tickets available for Paris. Explore the beautiful neoclassical Panthéon, a secular tomb honoring France's cultural heroes, from Marie Curie to Voltaire, beneath the tallest dome in Paris. Jacques-Germain Soufflot, the architect, planned to build a cathedral honoring patron saint Genevieve, but ended up creating an immense Roman-inspired monument to Enlightenment principles. Hugo to Zola, among other great names, were buried in the redesigned Pantheon following the Revolution.
Explore the ornate graves within the crypt below ground. An insightful display details Soufflot's misguided goals: he never saw his completed masterwork, which even now battles with poor materials and expensive repairs. If traveling from April to October, take the twisting, narrow stairs up to the upstairs balcony for views of Paris that are out of this world.
