Full Description
Towering 412 meters above sea level, the 10th century Castle of the Moors is a breathtaking feat of medieval military engineering. This Moorish hilltop citadel is a classified National Monument and part of Sintra's UNESCO-listed Cultural Landscape.
The castle's dizzying ramparts traverse rocky ridges and enormous boulders, surrounded by verdant forest. For magical views, hike up via the partly off-road Rua Marechal Saldanha route through quiet woodlands - a rewarding 2 km trail.
From the ramparts, the vistas over Sintra's palace-dotted hills to the glittering Atlantic are phenomenal. Gaze across the town's hilltop palaces like Pena, down to the old town hall, and beyond to the extensive northern plains.

- Please note the last admission is at 5:00 PM.
- Castle of the Moors is located in Sintra, about 30 kilometers from Lisbon. You can reach Sintra easily by taking the train from Lisbon.
- There is an online booking fee added to the ticket price.
- Standard opening hours: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Last admission 5:00 PM
- Parques de Sintra seasonal opening hours: December 24-25 and Jan 1 - closed all day. December 31 and January 2-3: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, last admission at midday.
