Experience the stunning mountain scenery of Madeira on a self-guided sunrise hike between Pico do Arieiro and Pico Ruivo. Begin your adventure with an early pickup from your accommodation in Funchal or nearby areas and travel by shared transfer to Pico do Arieiro, the island’s second-highest peak.
Once there, watch the sunrise over the mountains (weather permitting) before starting the hike along the famous trail that connects Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo, the highest mountain on Madeira at 1,862 meters. Walk at your own pace while enjoying breathtaking views, rugged landscapes, and unique rock formations along the route.
During the hike, you may pass through tunnels and steep sections, including the well-known “Stairway to Heaven.” The trek usually takes around five hours and covers roughly 10 kilometers, ending at Achada do Teixeira. After completing the hike, a transfer will pick you up and drive you back to your accommodation.
