Jerez de la Frontera: Andalusian Horse Dance & Museums

Experience the artistry of Andalusian horsemanship at the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art in Jerez de la Frontera with the unique ballet performance, How the Andalusian Horses Dance. Set to traditional Spanish music and performed in elegant 18th-century costumes, the show blends classical dressage, Doma Vaquera, and traditional equestrian movements into a breathtaking choreography.

Watch highly trained horses perform advanced exercises to classical music across 6–8 captivating routines, including The Colts, Airs on Horseback, Pas de Deux, Passage and Piaffer, Domino on Horseback, Airs Above the Ground, and Fantasy. See their precision in carriage work—once essential for transportation and now showcased as an art form—guided by skilled coachmen using traditional harnesses. The presentation also features stunning “Haute École” dressage elements such as levades, caprioles, courbettes, piaffe (between pillars), and the Spanish walk. The finale brings horses and riders together in a synchronized display of masterful technique.

Enter the venue through the Visitor Reception Centre, where a digital cinema offers an immersive audiovisual introduction to Andalusia’s equestrian heritage (available until 11:00 AM). From there, stroll through lush gardens filled with exotic plants and admire the stately 19th-century palace overlooking the grounds.

Continue your visit in the basement’s Museum of Equestrian Art, featuring 11 themed rooms that trace the evolution of horsemanship in Andalusia. Explore the Saddlery, where harnesses are crafted and repaired, and conclude your experience at the Carriage Museum, home to traditional wagons, harnesses, and period equestrian attire.
